Hey Dr Sue — Why Do Guys Worry About Penis Size? (A Penis Is A Penis, We Love it)

Guys worry about penis size because we tell them that penis size is important.

As a society we talk about how penis size can mean a lot of things — how manly he is, or how good a lover he is, when really penis size has nothing to do with those things.

But many men do worry about it. We make jokes about how size doesn’t matter, when the underlying message is that it does.

We post articles about how to guess how big a men’s penis is just by looking at his feet, or his hands, or how he sits.

So does size matter? The honest answer is maybe.

When we talk to partners some tell us it does matter, while others say no.

For some partners there are many things that are more important than penis size — communication style, how much he focuses on his partner’s pleasure, being open to trying new things, confidence… it really varies from person to person.

And yet, with all that, we still center conversations around size.

This is the point where I would give the numbers on what we know about “average” size and I have to admit I’m hesitant, because no matter how many times I say things like “these numbers are based on self-report” or “people lie!”…
