Hey Dr Sue — Is It Normal To Have A Multicolored Penis?

I absolutely understand why you’re self-conscious about this, so let’s see if we can get you some answers!

While for most people their penis is the same color as the skin on the rest of the body, that isn’t true for everyone! For some people the penis may be a shade or two darker, or lighter, than their regular skin tone.

You mentioned that the foreskin was a different color, that can also be perfectly normal.

There are a couple of follow up questions I wish I could ask. But since this was asked anonymously, that’s not exactly possible. So let me throw some questions/answers out and see if this covers everything.

First — is this a new thing, or have these color differences always been there? If it’s not new I wouldn’t worry so much about it. If it is a new thing, was your penis bruised recently? If so, that could cause the color change. If the color difference is new, and there’s been no bruising that you remember, than I suggest getting it checked out.

My second question is — is the color difference always there, or does it change based on how sexually excited you are? If it appears when you’re excited, then that’s also normal. The head of the penis will often change colors when aroused, and may turn any shade between red and purple. This is…
