Hey Dr Sue — Can A Testicle Injury Cause Erectile Dysfunction?

Every part of me is saying I should tell you to go to the doctor. But I know you don’t have health insurance.

Let me start by asking a few questions about the injury. You said your testicles kind of went back to normal. Is there still pain in either or both testicles? I’m assuming there was a bit of swelling and bruising in the scrotum. Is there any anymore? If the answer is yes to either of these questions, I would highly encourage you to talk to a health care provider. Especially if it’s been more than a month.

If those things have gone away, then it’s easy to think that the injury didn’t cause long term issues. But even if there aren’t lingering physical issues that you see, there can be things happening that you’re just not aware of.

Like erectile dysfunction (ED). It is possible for an injury to the testicles to lead to ED. This is often caused by damage to the testicles which can impact hormone production.

So let’s take a look at what’s happening. Are you not getting erections at all? Any erections in the morning when you wake up? Or are you just not getting them as frequently? If you’re not getting them at all, that can be a sign of an issue.
